HEALTH & PHYS ED - FAMILY STUDIES
DESCRIPTION
This elective looks at various family structures, the stages of the life cycle, prenatal care, birth of the chid and development of the baby.
Students will learn about the growth and development of a child, the cultural influences and educational development form birth to the end of schooling.
They will study the needs of the child, the role of the family in caring for each other’s health and well-being.
FOCUS
Appropriate foods and nutritional needs of family members during various stages of their lives (with an emphasis on children).
There will be one practical experience in this area.
Relevant first-aid in the home, illnesses, disabilities and community health services will be researched to gain an understanding of the assistance available and effect on a family.
