WHAT WILL STUDENTS LEARN?

Students will learn a wide range of skills involved in the monitoring and handling of livestock relevant to a farming situation. Students will especially focus on Poultry Studies and Dairy Production. Students will be involved in the maintenance of school animals and the agriculture area. Students will plan a vegetable garden and then establish their garden design.

 

HOW WILL STUDENTS LEARN?

Students will learn through practical skills developed in handling of livestock and day to day maintenance of livestock. Students will be required to keep detailed observations of farm animals and monitor animal health. Students will learn through practical skills developed in design and implementation of an organic vegetable garden and monitoring of pests and diseases.

 

HOW WILL STUDENTS BE ASSESSED?

  • Participate in outside practical activities

  • Class knowledge test

  • Creating poultry health care booklet

  • Creating a 3D chicken digestive system poster

  • Calf health PowerPoint presentation

 

Please note: This subject requires students to look after livestock, clean out enclosures and perform general animal husbandry tasks. You may be required to assist with livestock monitoring on weekends, during lunchtimes and school holidays.
